“To sleep perchance to dream“ is that celebrated soliloquy from Shakespeare’s famous play Hamlet. I believe Shakespeare realized the importance of a peaceful night’s rest. Furthermore, when he penned that famous line, he also understood that dreams were often at the forefront of his thoughts. Although Shakespeare was not saying that God was necessarily speaking to him via a dream, he still appreciated the value of a dream and what it might reveal.
A moment of self-reflection:
I used the quote from Shakespeare to encourage you to question your own perception of reality and whether your “waking” life is fundamentally different from a dream. Acknowledging that God might be speaking to you through a dream has a purpose. It can bring encouragement to your spirit and help create a new connection (perhaps even a conversation) with the Creator of the Universe. Imagine if everything in your dream had a deeper meaning behind it. Could God be trying to get your attention?
Please take a moment to consider this verse from Isaiah 30:21 “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying ‘this is the way, walk in it’.” (NIV Bible translation)
This simple one-line verse speaks to both the soul and spirit. No matter where you go and no matter which way your turn, God has no limitations on how He chooses to speak with you. He desires to make you the focal point of His conversations – to offer solace or even provide direction if you are willing to listen. Why not also through a dream.
It’s the process of a dream interpretation:
When the elements in a dream are given to capture our attention, they can also draw us deeper into a journey of discovering God’s way for us. We just have to be curious enough to explore their meanings and hidden mysteries. We can uncover the meaning of symbols, objects, people, or actions to uncover deeper, often unconscious messages, emotions, or unresolved issues. There are plenty of available resources to help you through the process, including this website so have fun exploring and…..
Remember: Both the mystery and God are often hidden in the details of a dream! Read more about this in my book “Conversations and Encounters with God in the Night.” (Available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble bookstores)
